The River Spean is one of the best known rivers in Scotland. It is a
spate river, reducing to a low flow in summer, but becoming a raging
torrent after winter storms and the spring snow melt. The lower reaches
of the River Spean are widely held to be amongst the most picturesque
and productive fishing venues in Scotland. It is famed mainly for salmon
and sea trout. The river runs alongside the Road to the Isles, and
reaches the sea at Fort William.
Based in Glen Spean, most of the facilities of the Lochaber Country Club
are set in striking scenery with lochs, woods and mountains blending to
produce some of the most spectacular landscape in Scotland. Glen Spean
has long been admired as a place of outstanding natural beauty. The glen
has featured in the film "Mrs Brown" a tale about Queen Victoria, and
was the setting for the BBC drama "Monarch of the Glen".
